I should like to tell fellow members some of the hidden benefits of membership, and this month I would like to address the subject of reciprocity.
Many of our members may not be aware of the reciprocal arrangements that allow them to visit or book a room at the Royal Over-Seas League, a club dedicated to international understanding and friendship strategically located in London’s prestigious St James’s area, next to the Green Park and about fifteen minutes from Buckingham Palace. From my short stay there last month, I can only say that I found it very pleasant, the staff courteous and helpful, the garden an ideal place for a good meal or a drink, and with a breakfast menu served at the table instead of the usual buffet and value for money compared to nearby hotels.  The attached photos will give an idea of what it is like.
I invite members to consult the website https://www.rosl.org.uk and should anyone be interested in visiting, please ask Adriana at the Secretary’s office for the letter of introduction as a member of the British Club of Las Palmas.
Another less cosy but more imposing and prestigious London club with which the British Club enjoys a reciprocal agreement should also be mentioned: The National Liberal Club was founded in 1882 by the eminent politician William Ewart Gladstone, Victorian Prime Minister, and has counted among its members statesmen such as Winston Churchill and David Lloyd George, numerous parliamentarians, as well as literati such as GK Chesterton, George Bernard Shaw, HG Wells, Jerome K Jerome, Dylan Thomas or Bram Stoker, among a multitude of notables.
Located in a historic building overlooking the Thames, the National Liberal Club offers its members and guests «an oasis of calm, comfort and elegance in the heart of Westminster» where it occupies a clubhouse of impressive grandeur. It was the first club to admit women, but its greatest pride is being «the most inclusive club in London. Whatever your background, skin colour, gender or sexuality, you can be yourself at the NLC, as long as you respect the right of others to do the same».

«The National Liberal Club (which does not offer accommodation) has some of the best dining and socialising spaces in London. Members and their guests can enjoy a drink or a meal in spectacular surroundings at relatively modest prices. Our dedicated team of chefs are passionate about delivering the highest quality food, sourcing premium seasonal and sustainable produce from a carefully selected list of British suppliers.»  Check it out for yourselves by visiting https://nlc.org.uk
