Tierra y Cielo – Carolina Padrón Art Exhibition
📍 British Club, Calle León y Castillo, 204, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
📅 March 8–14
⏰ Opening night: March 8, 17:00
Gran Canaria artist Carolina Padrón presents Tierra y Cielo, a deeply personal exhibition that merges painting with movement, using her own body as a brush. Her work explores themes of femininity, nature, and personal transformation through large-scale abstract pieces inspired by the four elements. The opening night on March 8 will feature a pole dance performance by Johanna Suárez Hernández and music by Andrea Gil.
Carolina Padrón’s ‘Tierra y Cielo’: A Fusion of Art and Movement
Carolina Padrón brings an innovative and deeply personal approach to painting in Tierra y Cielo, her debut exhibition at the British Club in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Running from March 8 to 14, the exhibition features 15 paintings, including 12 large-scale works, one of which spans an impressive four meters. What sets Padrón’s work apart is her unique method—she applies paint directly to her body and transfers its imprint onto the canvas, combining her background as an acrobat and pole dancer with her artistic vision.
Opening on International Women’s Day, the exhibition highlights the feminine universe both thematically and in its creative process. Padrón’s work is a reflection on the female body, a tribute to the women who shaped her life, particularly her grandmother and mother. She describes her paintings as deeply connected to her personal experiences, with each piece symbolizing different stages of her journey.
Elements of Transformation
The four elements—earth, air, fire, and water—serve as the foundation of Padrón’s artistic exploration.
Earth represents her family and Gran Canaria, her grounding force and source of comfort.
Air reflects her desire for exploration and movement, mirroring her experience in acrobatics and dance.
Fire symbolizes her passion, drive, and resilience, particularly in overcoming physical setbacks.
Water embodies her current state of acceptance and flow, a lesson learned after facing health challenges.
Padrón turned to painting as a means of creative expression following hip surgery, which limited her ability to perform acrobatics. Seeking an alternative way to channel her movement-based artistry, she developed a technique of painting with her body, inspired in part by Canadian artist Brent Ray Fraser. Unlike Fraser, who leaves his bodily imprints untouched, Padrón refines her works with additional brushstrokes, shaping them into her final vision.
A Night of Art, Dance, and Music
The exhibition’s opening night on March 8 promises to be an immersive experience. In collaboration with the Pole Dance School and Aéreos Liberarte, professional pole dancer Johanna Suárez Hernández will perform a live routine, blending aerial movement with Padrón’s artistic themes. Andrea Gil will provide the musical backdrop, creating a multi-sensory event that embodies the dynamism of Tierra y Cielo.
Looking ahead, Padrón plans to further develop her technique by working with Fraser in New York. While she remains active in the performance world, her focus is shifting toward painting as a long-term pursuit. Her goal is to find a balance between art and movement, adapting her career in a way that respects her physical limitations while embracing new creative possibilities.
With Tierra y Cielo, Carolina Padrón invites the audience to witness a journey of resilience, self-expression, and transformation—where body and soul merge onto the canvas in a celebration of art and life.
